How to Fish Island 3 Guide: Tourist, Carrot & Pufferfish

Video tested

Complete Island 3 in How to Fish: help the Tourist with an Endangered Creature, get the Carrot, beat Pufferfish, and keep the Pufferfish Tail.

Quick answer

On Island 3, the main progression chain is Tourist → Endangered Creature → Carrot → Pufferfish → Pufferfish Tail. The Grill Master is useful for cooking, but the Tourist / Pufferfish chain is the tested path that advances the story.

What to do first on Island 3

Two useful NPC threads appear here:

  • Grill Master: asks for a Shark and unlocks the Grill. This improves food and can increase sale value when catches are cooked correctly.
  • Tourist: asks for a creature explicitly labelled Endangered Species. This is the progression-relevant chain.

If your only goal is the next island, prioritize the Tourist request first.

Step 1: give the Tourist an Endangered Creature

The tested footage shows that the important requirement is the creature’s on-screen Endangered Species label. The videos mention more than one candidate, so this page should not invent a single mandatory species when the UI label is the real condition.

Turn in a valid Endangered Creature and the Tourist gives you a Carrot.

Step 2: use the Carrot for Pufferfish

The Carrot is the bait / trigger used for the Pufferfish encounter.

Pufferfish is one of the sharper launch-day difficulty spikes because it is fast, durable and punishes open-ground fighting. The most repeated tested tactic is to use trees or solid obstacles to force pathing changes and create safe shooting windows.

Full combat details: Pufferfish boss guide.

Step 3: keep the Pufferfish Tail

After the kill, do not assume ordinary chunks advance the quest. The tested progression item is the Pufferfish Tail.

Pick it up quickly, keep it away from seagulls and return it for the next-island progression.

Optional but useful: unlock the Grill

The Grill Master asks for a Shark. Once unlocked, the Grill can improve the value and usefulness of catches. In one tested run, cooking value rose up to about 1.5× before overcooking began to reduce value; treat that as observed launch behavior rather than a universal formula for every item or patch.

Island 3 stuck checklist

  • Tourist will not progress? Make sure the creature itself is labelled Endangered Species.
  • Have the Carrot? Use it for the Pufferfish chain rather than selling it.
  • Pufferfish keeps running you down? Fight around trees / corners instead of open ground.
  • Pufferfish dead but no progression? Find and return the Pufferfish Tail.
