Guides are updated from Dazed Games Steam news plus launch footage — especially the things players actually get stuck on.

No exact coordinates
The atlas is intentionally schematic. We will not publish precise world coordinates until they are cross-verified; for now markers and connected routes are enough to plan a run.

Is How to Fish multiplayer?

Yes. Official Patch 1.0.4 added support for lobbies of up to 8 players, and Patch 1.0.5 added invite-only private lobbies. The Steam store summary still says 1–4 players, so this site uses the newer patch notes as the current lobby size. Solo and co-op share the same progression rules.
What difficulty modes exist?

Patch 1.0.9 added Easy and Hard alongside the previous default. Official numbers: Easy creatures have 25% less health and deal 50% less damage; Hard creatures have 25% more health and deal 25% more damage. You can change difficulty in the main menu or in-game.
Do I need a fish guide to start?

No. The first island and the Beer quest are solo-friendly. You only need a guide once you hit progression blockers: Spider Crab timing, leech locations, Pufferfish terrain, or the weapon upgrade order.
How long is a How to Fish run?

Launch-window content does not support one reliable average. A rough player estimate for a first run is a couple of evenings of play across the five islands, but no sourced dataset exists yet. The Bean achievement target is sub-one-hour and is currently flagged Needs confirmation until a verified no-shortcut route is recorded.
What is the weapon upgrade order?

Melee → Knife → Shotgun → SMG → Sniper → Assault Rifle. Keep one shotgun for Spider Crab and switch to AR for Magma Whale. Video-tested recommendation: the suppressor / compensator improved recoil control in the supplied runs; the best attachment still depends on weapon and patch.
Can I lose the boat?

Not reliably in the final phase. In launch-day tested footage, Magma Whale despawned when it was pulled too far from the volcano region, so plan to fight in the intended final area rather than trying to escape by boat.
Where do I find 3 Leeches?

Find all 3 Leeches on the ground on Island 2. Keep the camera low and scan the quest area and nearby vegetation; they are pickups, not fish you catch in the water. The early 5-Leeches claim from secondary guides is wrong — 3 is the verified quest total.
How does the Casino roulette work?

Lucky Bait Casino pays green/red bets. The actual value swing depends on which item you gamble; cooked fish win more than raw. Treat it as a controlled risk, not a money farm.
How do I clean a cooked weapon or tool?

Official Patch 1.0.10: dip weapons and tools in water to clean cooking off them. That is a current-version rule, not launch-day footage.
Do dropped items save between sessions?

Official Patch 1.0.10 saves up to 64 items dropped on the ground between sessions, prioritizing weapons, tools, quest items and creatures. Inventory-loss and missing-boat reports after load are still separate community issues, not listed as guaranteed fixes.
Can I skip island unlocks?

No longer. Patch 1.0.5 fixed a bug that let players travel to any island without unlocking them. Bean / sub-one-hour runs now have to follow the quest chain.
Why are some claims marked Needs confirmation?

How to Fish is still receiving frequent official patches. Anything we could not verify across Steam store facts, Dazed Games patch notes, plus supplied gameplay footage is labelled Needs confirmation instead of presented as fact.
